Head Coach - Justin Reese
District 10-6A Coach of the Year, 2014-2015 & 2015-2016
The 2017-18 season is Coach Justin Reese’s ninth as the head basketball coach at Richardson High School. Under Coach Reese, the Eagles have previously won back-to-back district championships. Prior to these two championships, the Eagles had not won the district since 1987. The Eagles went 19-13 last year and secured their fifth consecutive playoff berth. In 2015, the Eagles were bi-district and area champions, as well as regional quarterfinalists. Coach Reese was recognized as district coach of the year for district 10-6A for both 2015 & 2016. In 2016, Coach Reese celebrated his 200th win.
In 2013, Reese was named Richardson ISD Coach of the Year. Before coming to Richardson High School, Reese was head coach at Crosby High School in Houston. While at Crosby, he was twice voted district coach of the year while leading his team to back-to-back playoff appearances and a district title.
Coach Reese is excited about the 2017-2018 season and loves working with the great young men here at RHS. He has been married to his wife, Hollie, for 17 years. They have three children, Riley (12), Brooks (10), and Cade (8). In his free time, coach Reese enjoys spending time with his family and going with them on vacations.
Junior Varsity – Coach Kevin Lawson
The 2017 -18 season is Coach Lawson’s seventeenth season coaching. This is his third season with Richardson High School. He is currently the head coach for the Junior Varsity team and the assistant coach for the Varsity team. He spent 11 seasons as the assistant coach for the Varsity basketball team and the head coach for the cross country team at Leander High School near Austin. Prior to that, he coached 3 years at Mesquite High School. Last season, Coach Lawson was awarded the 6A Assistant Coach of the Year. This award is voted on by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches.
Coach Lawson is originally from Gainesville, Texas. He attended Abilene Christian University where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Education. He currently teaches geometry.
Kevin is married to Kellie and they have two children, Jake (8) and Luke (4). In their free time, they enjoy watching sports, reading, hanging out with family, and going to church.
Freshman A Coach - Mike Bangs
The 2017-18 season is Coach Michael Bangs second season with Richardson High School. He is currently the Varsity & JV basketball assistant and the Defensive Ends Coach for football. He spent 5 seasons as the Defensive Coordinator, Defensive Line and Assistant Basketball Coach at Hillcrest High School. Prior to that, he coached 3 years at Mesquite Poteet High School.
Coach Bangs is originally from Dallas, TX. He attended Lake Highlands High School lettering in both football and basketball. He received collegiate scholarships for both football and basketball. He received his bachelor degree in Mass Communications and minored in Business at New Mexico State. He currently teaches Physical Education.
Michael is married to Karisha and they have one child, Phillip (1). In their free time, they enjoy traveling, movies and great food.
